Roomba Goes Wireless for the Ultimate in Lazy

Since 2002, haters of vacuum cleaners rejoiced in the fact that they no longer had to push a contraption around to clean their floors, thanks to the Roomba. Of course, while it didn’t do heavy duty cleaning, it certainly lightened the load for keeping floors dust bunny-free while terrorizing household pets in the process.

Gadgets grow with time, and so the Roomba has been given a new feature from its makers, iRobot. For the ultimate in laziness, the Roomba is now powered by a wireless remote control so you don’t even have to get up off the sofa to tell it what to do.

The iRobot Roomba 790 can be used from anywhere in your home, and will let you steer the Roomba and schedule a cleaning, adjust the clock and even send it back to its docking bases. While it’s not quite the house cleaning as imagined in the Jetson’s TV show, it’s certainly one-step closer to automated cleaning.

Users can issue commands from anywhere in the home, including steering. With the steering function, you can guide the Roomba to an especially dirty spot, and then activate a spot cleaning.

It’s not just a little vacuuming robot. Much like its larger counterparts, this little vacuum comes with side brushes, beater brushes, and a bristle brush, along with brush cleaning tools. There are also two sets of HEPA filters.

According to the product specification page, the Virtual Wall Lighthouses confines Roomba in one room until it is clean and then lets it move into the next room. Roomba goes back to its ‘Home Base’ to dock and recharge between cleanings.

It’s on sale as of today in the U.S., and cleaning this easily comes with a hefty price. For $699, you can own this wireless device to clean your floors.

If buying a Roomba isn’t your thing, it’s at least entertaining to watch a bunch of kittens take one for a spin around the room.
