BRIEF: Office, medical supplies turn into robots

SEFFNER, Jul 10, 2012 (Tampa Tribune - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- All it takes is a few household items, and these kids can make a robotic arm that can pick up weight and move it from one spot to another.

It's science. The fun way.

Thirteen students put their classroom lessons to the test recently at the Junkyard Robotics summer camp at the Hillsborough County Extension office.

Using tongue depressors, rubberbands, tape, a syringe and plastic hose, they created robotic arms that could move side to side and up and down using air pushed through the tubing.

Some teams came up with more than 30 designs before they found one that would work. Other teams got it with 10 tries.
