BRIEF: Two dead in East St. Louis in apparent murder-suicide

Nov 23, 2012 (St. Louis Post-Dispatch - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- East St. Louis -- Illinois State Police were investigating an apparent murder-suicide Thursday night in the 700 block of North 75th Street.

A 44-year-old woman was at her home with her parents about 6 p.m. when her father came downstairs and fatally shot his wife with a handgun, according to Capt. Jim Morrisey, a State Police spokesman. The man then turned the gun on his daughter and shot at her as she ran from the home to a neighbor's house.

When police arrived, they found the mother, 66, and took her outside the house, where she was pronounced dead. Police used a robot to search the upper level of the home, where they found the man, 69, who was dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The daughter, who was shot an unknown number of times, was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Police did not release any names.
