If you classify yourself as someone who succeeds at the dreaded task of having to multitask, some of you might hit an obstacle when you have a million things to do while trying to have a conversation over Skype. The obstacle that emerges is trying to stay within the frame, which may not be an issue solely for you, but for the person you’re trying to speak with. Today, more and more gadgets are being welcomed into the world of technology, making it normal for inventions we never thought could exist. Little worries such as not being able to stay in the frame of a Skype conversation can now be solved with the creation of Botiful, a prototype currently being funded on Kickstarter, which allows you to video-chat with ease.
Botiful integrates with Skype and carries your Android phones around, letting whoever you’re talking to control it as they wish. The football-sized robot on wheels is big enough to hold most Android phones in its magnetized slot. The unique aspect of Botiful is that other mobile devices can control it via Skype. For example, if you’re a parent who is Skyping their child who is away at school, you would simply put your phone in the robot, and your child would be able to control it from wherever they might be.
In addition to Skype calls, the robot can also simply be used as a video camera. What can be better than having your own personal video camera to keep an eye on things for you? This robot on wheels can scurry around to all different locations, including following your little ones around, allowing you to see what they are doing while being able to check other things off your to- do list.
Currently, Botiful will only work with Android devices and the Kickstarter goal is set to $90,000, with $63,337 already funded, with 20 days to go. The developer promises an iPhone version robot if the project manages to hit $100,000 within the time limit.
