Fundraising is one of the most essential parts of FIRST Robotics championship, where teams are required to build up a robot within a six-week time period. Each team is required to first apply for grants and raise the money to build their robot. Sponsorship means a lot for the teams, determined to scale the summit in this high-profile competition.
In addition to funds, support may take various other forms, such as equipment and mentorship. Donations and supplies allow the team to build a better robot, pay for travel expenses and entry fees for out-of-town competitions. The High School Robotics Team, the W.A.R.Lords (We Are Robot Lords) of Francis Parker High School in San Diego will be appearing in the arena of FIRST Robotics Competition for the sixth time this year. EnvironmentalLights.com, a LED lighting vendor, is one of the several local companies that have extended their financial support to this highly motivated team.
“On behalf on the 55 members of the Francis Parker W.A.R.Lords, I can say that we are excited about our future with EnvironmentalLights.com and grateful for its generous sponsorship. Sponsors allow us to reach our full potential and make the best robot possible while simultaneously assisting with our efforts to promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) and preserving the environment with our green initiatives. We are happy we can count on companies like EnvironmentalLights.com to support the development of science and technology,” Matthew Handmacher, co-president of the W.A.R.Lords, commented in a statement.
The other co-president of the W.A.R.Lords, Nicole Simmons, added that this type of sponsorship will allow the team to grow, giving birth to tomorrow’s engineers, programmers and business leaders.
“As a mentor to W.A.R.Lords, I look forward to this year’s build season and competitions as much as the students,” said Greg Thorson, president of EnvironmentalLights.com. “It is our pleasure to support this group of hard-working students in their quest for technical skills. EnvironmentalLights.com hopes to be joined by many other sponsors for the 2013 build season.”
For the LED lighting company, the association with the team is no less prestigious. The team has been consistent in showcasing its technical superiority over fellow teams and successfully passed their skills to the underclassmen in the program to ensure continued growth. It will be relevant to mention here that in the past, the W.A.R. Lords team has received contributions from many high-profile organizations, such as Qualcomm, BAE, NASA, ASME, SIAC and General Dynamics.
Earlier this month, EnvironmentalLights.com launched a new family of individually addressable RGB LED pixel lighting. As one of the newest technologies in the LED market, PixelPro LED lighting stands apart from standard color-changing options, according to its maker. It combines the ability to produce millions of colors with the technology needed to achieve individual pixel control.
