The multinational inspection, testing and certificate-awarding company, Intertek, announced on January 13, 2013, that it had “expanded and enhanced its lubricant testing and oil condition monitoring services (OCM) in Singapore, with a new automated, robotic sampling handling system.”
Based in London, Intertek has expanded its reach through this venture, and it will likely stay in Singapore for the foreseeable future. If operations go according to plan, this development may open more doors of opportunity for the company in Asian markets.
Intertek is a publically traded company on the London Stock Exchange, has operating revenue of $2.74 billion, and reported a net income of over $450 million with approximately 33,000 employees. The company is also a part of the “Footsie 100,” a share index of the 100 companies listed on the London Stock Exchange with the highest market capitalization.
The company has established its lubricant and oil testing facility in Singapore precisely to supply various customers in the region. The robotic automation will allow the company to more quickly and efficiently test products for an array of industrial customers: heavy machinery suppliers, mining, marine, theme park operators, railway systems, industrial plants, and large scale chemical engineering projects.
According to The Herald Online, “The lubricants laboratory provides various analytical programs, including lubricant chemical analysis, failure analysis, gear lubricant testing, and oil condition testing. Lubricants consultancy is offered for diverse industries. Customized Oil and Equipment Condition Monitoring Programs are designed for Marine and Maritime operators to match their operating schedules.”
The company has also established a wear metals testing facility, which tests for iron, copper, lead, aluminum and other trace metals for a variety of clients around the world.
As the company grows in these sectors, it opens up the potential for opportunities into rapidly growing markets in nearby China, India and elsewhere.
